Abstract
This research follows an exploratory qualitative approach, with the main objective of analyzing how the mental processes associated with general thinking, mathematical thinking, and computational thinking can contribute to the development of cognitive skills essential for learning mathematics and computing. The study draws on bibliographic material and the construction of conceptual maps to analyze and compare concepts, supported by educational and cognitive theories. It is understood that the act of thinking is intrinsically linked to the development of intelligence and cognitive abilities, and is influenced by interaction with the environment. Although mathematical and computational thinking share general mental processes, they each present specific features in problem solving. We present mathematical and computational skills involved in the problem-solving process, with the aim of supporting teachers in strengthening their knowledge within this context.
